I bought a new water bottle, exactly what I was after - small, metal, good seal, green with a pretty tree motif. Perfect! However, it turns out that it's also exactly what he wants. He asks to hold it or drink from it in preference to any of his own. And often won't hand it back. Obviously I love to share with him, but his water bottles inevitably become adorned with his signature crusty banana/toast/peanut butter (etc) and my goal is to keep my own bottle food-free. Too ambitious? I'm hoping the novelty wears off (for him) soon, so that I can be confident that this is, in fact, my new bottle and not his!
